Hey Poker Fam,
There was a big security breach at Wynn Las Vegas.
Hacker group ShinyHunters just stole 800,000 employee records—Social Security numbers, salaries, personal info—and demanded $1.5 million ransom. If you've played at or worked for Wynn, you need to monitor your accounts now.
Also this week: Brad Owen detailed a brutal $400K downswing from chasing a major title, the WSOP is heading to Malta for the first time ever (September), WPT Global paid out six figures to whistleblowers catching cheaters, and a massive debate erupted over "one chip back" strategy that has Matt Savage calling for a TDA Summit discussion.
Today's strategy: When and how to overbet. Most players still bet 25-75% of the pot, which means overbetting creates massive pressure your opponents aren't used to. Let's get into it...

1. WYNN LAS VEGAS HIT BY HACKERS, $1.5M RANSOM DEMANDED
Hacker group ShinyHunters stole 800,000 Wynn employee records (names, SSNs, salaries, personal info) via an Oracle PeopleSoft vulnerability and demanded $1.5 million ransom.
What happened: It is unclear if Wynn has paid the ransom. On top of it, a class-action lawsuit has also been filed.
The bigger picture: This is another major cyberattack on a Las Vegas casino operator. Caesars paid $15M in 2023. MGM refused and lost $100M in system disruptions.
Why it matters: If you've played at or worked for Wynn, monitor your accounts.

2. BRAD OWEN DETAILS $400K DOWNSWING—AND THE BRUTAL REALITY OF CHASING TITLES
Brad Owen, one of Poker's biggest vlogger with nearly 800K YouTube subscribers, just revealed he's down $400,000 since the 2024 WSOP. Most of it came from high-stakes tournaments where he's been trying to win a major title.
The mental toll: "I feel like I'm losing my identity and a failure if I don't turn things around soon," Owen wrote. He admitted his health has deteriorated, he's not having fun anymore, and he doesn't know how much time he has left before burning out completely.
The pressure: "I put an insane amount of pressure on myself to try to be the best dad, significant other, Poker player, content creator, ambassador, etc. It's tough to ever escape or take a break because I fear that if I turn off the machine, even for a short time, I might not be able to turn it on again."
Industry vent: Owen also criticized the WPT for parting ways with Andrew Neeme, hated on YouTube Shorts and AI voiceovers, and noted that top pros now need to produce content because "the major Poker companies don't give the best players ambassador roles anymore."
Why this matters: When one of the most successful vlogger in Poker admits he's struggling mentally, financially, and physically while chasing a title, it's a reality check about the cost of ambition. Owen's transparency is why 800K people trust him.

3. WSOP HEADING TO MALTA FOR FIRST-EVER CIRCUIT STOP
The WSOP International Circuit is hitting Malta for the first time: September 25-October 12 at Casino Malta in St. Julian's for 12 Circuit rings.
What's up for grabs: Rings plus $5,000 packages to WSOP Paradise, where ring winners get a seat in the end-of-season Circuit Championship.
The bigger picture: Malta joins an aggressively expanding 2026 WSOP International Circuit—Liechtenstein, Amsterdam, France, Cyprus, Estonia, and Montreal (three times). WSOP Europe in Prague (March 31-April 12) also features a €10M Main Event.

4. WPT GLOBAL PAYS SIX FIGURES TO WHISTLEBLOWERS CATCHING CHEATERS
WPT Global has paid out over $100,000 to players through their "Rewarding Integrity in Poker (RIP)" program—a whistleblower system that pays you for catching cheaters.
What they're targeting: Collusion, bots, and real-time assistance (RTA).
How it works: Report suspicious activity → WPT investigates → If confirmed, affected players get compensated and whistleblowers get paid from recovered assets.
Why this matters: Most sites investigate cheating reactively. WPT Global is paying players to actively hunt for it, creating a "positive integrity cycle."

5. THE "ONE CHIP BACK" DEBATE TEARING POKER APART
WPT Executive Tournament Director Matt Savage says "one chip back" strategy will be discussed at the 2026 TDA Summit after two incidents at the WPT Jacksonville event caused confusion and floor calls.
Why players do it: Stalling for pay jumps, exploiting big blind antes for rebuilds, forcing opponents to expose cards when they don't realize action is pending.
Where operators are getting it wrong (according to Savage):
Some penalize players who don't see the chip and expose cards—"This is wrong"
Some try to force all-in declarations—"This is also wrong"
Some won't allow time bank chips when clocks are called—"I feel this is incorrect"
The player divide:
Dan Heimiller: "Deception is a part of Poker. Should we do away with check-raising because it's misleading?"
Greg Raymer: "It's a valid strategy. The TDA should implement no rule changes."
Katie Porello: At the NAPT they tried limiting it—"Players just left ten chips instead of one. It's a strategy."
The legend: In the 1982 WSOP Main Event, Jack "Treetop" Strauss had one chip lodged under the rail, thought he was eliminated, came back and won the entire tournament—creating the "chip and a chair" axiom.
What happens next: The TDA likely won't ban it (players will adapt), but may change how dealers and floors handle these situations.

STRATEGY CORNER
THE POWER OF OVERBETTING (AND WHY YOU'RE NOT DOING IT ENOUGH)
Most players bet between 25-75% of the pot. That's fine for basic strategy, but if you want to move up in stakes and exploit tougher opponents, you need to add overbets to your arsenal.
An overbet is any bet larger than the pot. And when used correctly, it's one of the most profitable weapons in Poker.
WHY OVERBET?
1. Your opponents will make more mistakes
Big bets create massive pressure. When you shove 150% of the pot, you're forcing your opponent to make a decision for a huge percentage of their stack. That psychological dynamic leads to mistakes—both calls when they should fold, and folds when they should call.
2. Most players aren't used to it
The average opponent still expects 25-75% bets. When you suddenly fire 1.5x pot, they're out of their comfort zone. That discomfort leads to exploitable errors.
3. Small stakes players don't like to fold
Making big bets against calling stations is the fastest way to boost your win rate. These players will pay you off consistently when you overbet for value. Don't bet small hoping to "induce a call." Bet big and get paid.
WHEN TO OVERBET
For value: When you have a strong hand against a calling station. This works especially well when you are not blocking any draws. Calling stations have a tough time folding draws, even when the price isn’t right.
For bluffs: Include hands that block your opponent's strongest possible holdings. For example, if you hold the ace of a flush draw that bricked, you're blocking their nut flush—making it a great overbet bluff candidate.
Board texture: Overbetting works best on boards where your range hits harder than theirs, and when there are clear draws that missed.
DON'T OVERUSE IT
Overbetting is a powerful tool, but only when used strategically. Against opponents who are paying attention and adjusting, they'll eventually start calling down lighter. That's fine—just make sure you're overbetting for value often enough to keep them honest.
In my book, I dive deeper into how to use overbets to exploit capped ranges—opponents who can't have the nuts based on their previous actions. When you know they're capped, overbetting becomes even more powerful.
