STRATEGY CORNER
Let's tackle one of the most foundational yet frequently misunderstood concepts in Poker: Range Construction and Why Your Starting Hands Matter More Than You Think.

Here's the uncomfortable truth: most players play way too many hands from early position and not nearly enough from late position and they don't understand the underlying principles of why certain hands are profitable from certain positions.
Range construction isn't about memorizing charts - it's about understanding connectivity and how your range interacts with opponent ranges. When you're in early position, you need hands that play well multiway and make strong top pairs or better. Think pocket pairs, Broadway cards, and suited connectors that can flop big. But you're folding hands like K9o or Q8s that might seem playable but get you into terrible postflop situations.
From late position, especially the button, your range should expand dramatically. You're not just looking for premium holdings - you're looking for any hand that has reasonable equity and playability. Suited connectors like 76s become gold mines on the button because you have position throughout the hand and can profitably see flops against opponents who don't defend their blinds properly.
Here's the game-changing concept: your preflop range directly determines your postflop opportunities. If you play too tight from late position, you're leaving money on the table. If you play too loose from early position, you're creating nightmare scenarios where you're out of position with marginal holdings against strong ranges.
Start thinking about your hands in terms of categories: value hands (betting for value), semi-bluff hands (drawing equity plus fold equity), pure bluffs (high card blockers with no showdown value) and marginal hands (like second and third pair). Every hand you play should fit into one of these categories based on your position and the action.
If you're struggling with which hands to play from which positions or finding yourself constantly in difficult spots postflop, it's because your preflop range construction needs work. Mastering range building is exactly what we focus on in The Poker Accelerator, and it's the foundation that everything else builds upon.

CLIP OF THE WEEK
For this week’s clip, watch Antonio Esfandiari pull off a $70,000 hero call against Sam "Senor Tilt" Kiki on Hustler Casino Live's High Stakes Wednesday—a hand that exemplifies an exploitative play under crushing pressure. Holding just top pair on a river that completed multiple draws, "The Magician" faced a massive double-pot overbet and had to decide whether Kiki's polarizing line told a coherent story or revealed pure aggression run amok.
This is must-watch Poker for anyone serious about developing their calling ranges in high-variance spots: Esfandiari's decision-making process shows how deep player profiling and bet sizing tells can turn a seemingly marginal holding into a six-figure pot.
When facing massive river overbets in your own games, are you considering your opponent's entire line and their psychological state, or just the strength of your cards?
