Hey Poker Fam,

This is the week it gets real. The WSOP is days away and if you're heading to Vegas, you need to prepare. Not just mentally. Physically. Your body's going to go through something it's never experienced—heat shock, time zone chaos, 12-hour days in an air-conditioned room with the desert waiting outside.

But the WSOP just put out a guide for exactly this. The practical stuff that keeps your body and mind sharp when the summer is trying to break you.

Shannon Elizabeth is bringing her mission to Poker. Five critical dates you need marked. And the strategic concept that separates the real players? Range advantage.

This is a week about preparation, charity, and the skills that win tournaments.

1. YOUR GUIDE TO SURVIVING SUMMER IN LAS VEGAS AT THE WSOP

Vegas in summer is brutal. It's 120 degrees outside. You're grinding long hour sessions. You're flying in from all over the world. Your body clock is off. The heat is relentless. And you've got two months of the most important Poker tournament series of your life ahead of you.

The WSOP just put out a survival guide for getting through the summer grind in Vegas. It covers everything: how to stay hydrated, how to manage the heat shock when you walk outside, how to keep your body right when you're spending all day inside, how to sleep when the sun doesn't set until 9 PM.

If you're heading to Vegas for the series, read this. Your health—and your game—depend on it.

2. SHANNON ELIZABETH IS BRINGING CHARITY POKER TO LAS VEGAS

American Pie star and wildlife conservationist Shannon Elizabeth is hosting a charity Poker tournament in Las Vegas this summer. This is exactly what Poker needs—celebrity power being used to raise money for causes that matter.

Shannon's mission is wildlife conservation. Using Poker as the vehicle to make that happen? That's brilliant. It brings new people to the game. It shows that Poker can be about more than just chips and money. It can be about impact.

4. POKER PLAYER BANNED FROM LONDON CASINO OVER HIT-AND-RUNS

Dr. Mortaza Sahibzada tried to sue Hippodrome Casino in London for banning him over hit-and-runs. His strategy was simple: win about £75 and then leave immediately. The casino didn't like it and banned him. So he sued for compensation, claiming discrimination.

Judge Andrew Holmes shut it down. He told Sahibzada there's no basis for discrimination claims. Then he made it crystal clear: "The casino is entitled to decide who does or doesn't come within its premises and use its services." Case dismissed.

But it got worse for Sahibzada. The judge ordered him to pay the casino £11,000 in legal fees. He didn't just lose. He had to pay for the casino's lawyers to beat him in court.

This is what happens when you try to game the system. Casinos have the right to protect their games. The judge made that perfectly clear.

The American Gaming Association just reported that 34 states with legalized gaming hit revenue records in 2025. The industry is growing. More states are legalizing. More money is flowing through Poker rooms.

This is good for all of us. Better rooms, bigger games, more opportunities. The mainstream acceptance of Poker is at an all-time high.

RANGE ADVANTAGE: THE CONCEPT THAT WINS TOURNAMENTS

Your story has to be believable. That's fundamental. If you're representing a hand at the table, the story you're telling has to make sense with your betting action and the board. If it doesn't? Your opponent is going to figure it out and exploit you.

Here's an example: You raise from middle position, get called by the button. The flop comes 6♠️-5♠️-2x. You check. Your opponent checks behind. The turn brings the 9h. Now you bet. Can you be representing 8-7 for the straight? Almost never. You would have continuation bet the flop with an open-ended straight draw. Your opponent knows this. So when you bet the turn, they know you didn't turn the straight. They can apply pressure knowing you're weak.

That's why your story matters. Because your opponent is paying attention to what your actions say about your hand.

But here's what separates good players from great ones: they focus on their opponent's hand, not just their own.

Poker is incomplete information. You don't have all the facts. But by thinking about what your opponent could have, you gain an edge. Most inexperienced players focus too much on themselves.

Think about your perceived range. What do your opponents think you have based on how you've been playing? If you're tight, they believe your range is narrow. If you're aggressive, they see you as playing wide. This perception is real. Use it.

And then there's range advantage. This is the big one. Range advantage is when one player's entire range of possible hands is stronger than their opponent's range.

Picture this: Early position opens, big blind calls. The flop is 6♠️-4♠️-3x. The big blind has the range advantage here. Why? They're calling preflop with way more low-suited connected cards than the early position player is opening with. The big blind can have more flush draws, more two pairs, more sets, more straights. Their whole range is stronger.

When you have range advantage, you can put more chips in the pot. You can apply more aggression. You can do this even if you completely missed the flop, because your overall range is better.

This is what separates tournament winners from everyone else. They understand range. They understand perceived range. They understand range advantage. And they use that to make better decisions with incomplete information.

CLIP OF THE WEEK

I call a raise with 86hh in the big blind and flop a gutshot on 10♠️-9♠️-9♣️, then decide to check-raise with just eight-high on this board that's crushing for my range—and when the turn brings a heart and the river pairs my six, you're going to want to see if I can get my opponent to lay down a strong hand by turning my pair into a bluff!

POLITICAL CANDIDATE LOSES $1M IN HIGH-STAKES POKER GAME

Democratic Congressional candidate Scott Fuhrman sat down at a high-stakes game at Hustler Casino and got obliterated. He played on tilt and that cost him another $1M. It's a cautionary tale: when you're running bad and angry, get away from the table. Playing emotionally will destroy your bankroll faster than anything else.
