STRATEGY CORNER
Let's talk about one of the most powerful weapons in your Poker arsenal: The Three-Bet and When to Deploy Maximum Preflop Aggression.
Most players know they should three-bet strong hands like pocket aces and kings, but they're leaving massive amounts of money on the table by not understanding the full power of the three-bet as both a value tool and a strategic weapon. Here's the truth: your three-betting range should be much wider and more dynamic than you think.
In my book, I mention that the three-bet serves multiple purposes that go way beyond just building pots with premium hands. When you three-bet from position, you're putting tremendous pressure on your opponent's opening range, forcing them to make difficult decisions with all their marginal holdings. Most players will fold way too often to three-bets, which means you can profitably three-bet with a polarized range that includes both your absolute monsters and strategic bluffs.
Here's the key concept that separates winning players from breakeven grinders: your three-betting frequency should be based on your opponent's opening frequency and their fold-to-three-bet percentage. Against a player who opens 25% of hands from the cutoff but folds 65% to three-bets, you can print money by three-betting them relentlessly from the button with a wide range of hands that have reasonable equity when called.
The practical application? Start tracking (or mentally noting) how often your opponents fold to three-bets. If they're folding more than 60%, you should be three-betting them significantly more often with hands that have good blockers - suited broadway cards, hands with aces, hands that can make the nuts. Against opponents who call three-bets too loosely, tighten up your three-betting range to premium value hands and be prepared to play big pots postflop.
Position matters enormously here. Three-betting from the button is incredibly powerful because you get position throughout the hand. Three-betting from the blinds requires a tighter, more value-heavy range because you'll be out of position postflop. The button three-bet is one of the highest EV plays in Poker when executed with proper range construction.
If you're not three-betting enough or finding yourself in difficult spots when you do three-bet, it's because you don't have a clear strategy for range construction and opponent exploitation. Mastering the three-bet is exactly the kind of aggressive strategy we perfect in The Poker Accelerator, and it's what separates crushers from the field.

CLIP OF THE WEEK
This week’s highlight is the largest pot ever televised in Poker history — an $11 million showdown between Aussie Collah and Alex Foxen at Triton Poker Jeju. The hand begins with deep stacks and a 2.5x open, leading to a complex battle on a king-jack-eight flop with two pair versus a flush draw. The turn brings Foxen the flush, but the river completes Collah’s full house, setting up a monumental all-in raise and call. Doug Polk’s breakdown explains the intricate range considerations and why Foxen’s call, though costly, is strategically sound given the rarity of full houses in this scenario. This hand stands as a remarkable lesson in high-stakes decision-making and pot dynamics.
