Hey Poker Fam,
The Lodge search warrant is out. And it's detailed.
TABC's investigation is moving forward, and Texas Poker just got way more complicated. No charges filed yet. No arrests made. But the warrant reveals specifics that raise serious questions.
This week:
• What investigators found in The Lodge warrant
• Why the collateral damage matters more than you might realize
• A game-changing innovation from Triton that Daniel Negreanu's been calling for
• Annette Obrestad's inspiring story
• Strategy Corner: How to crush heads-up Poker with the right opening ranges
Let's get into it...
THIS WEEK IN POKER

1. THE LODGE WARRANT REVEALS $1.35M IN FLAGGED DEPOSITS
The search warrant is public, and it's detailed. TABC investigators documented $1.35 million flowing through The Lodge's cash vault into Tempus Holdings accounts in just the first two months of 2025. These transactions were flagged as suspicious. Undercover agents played multiple times, documenting everything—buy-ins, beverages, chips purchased.
The investigation began in June 2024 with a confidential tip, then bank records, then undercover Poker sessions starting in April 2025. It was methodical.
What's interesting: the warrant reveals Doug Polk, Jake Abdalla, and Jason Levin control 63% of Tempus. But minority shareholders include Nick Petrangelo, Jamie Kerstetter, Ryan Fee, Brad Owen, Andrew Neeme—names you know. None appear to be targets.
Texas already operates in gray area when it comes to Poker—no rake allowed, only seat fees. The Lodge has to work differently than traditional card rooms. Add a money laundering investigation to that fragile balance, and you've got chaos.

2. THE LODGE CLOSURE HURTS MORE PEOPLE THAN YOU MIGHT THINK
I get it. Drama is entertaining. But here's what actually happens when The Lodge
stays closed.
Hundreds of dealers, floor staff, and workers are out of income. Many relocated to Austin specifically to work there. This was their Poker career. When a room that size closes indefinitely, they scramble.
Players lost access to their favorite room. Some have chips in play. If The Lodge never reopens, you could have a Full Tilt situation. Players can't recover their money. Fortunately, Doug Polk has personally guaranteed that funds are safe.
Here's the reality: Poker needs venues and people willing to deal. When we lose rooms and people lose livelihoods, that weakness spreads. Other rooms get nervous.
Dealers worry. Players move online. The whole game contracts.
Don't celebrate the closure of a major Poker room. Protecting the game means empathy for the people affected.

3. DANIEL NEGREANU JUST GOT WHAT HE'S BEEN ASKING FOR
Negreanu's been vocal about one thing for years: Poker needs better time
management. Triton just delivered.
"Triton Tempo" is a fully networked chess clock system. Instead of shot clocks
with set time and extension chips, you get a time bank for the tournament. Take
five seconds when you need five. Two minutes for a big decision. It's granular.
It's fair. Negreanu called it: "A game-changer for Poker."
Negreanu's long called stalling "a black mark on the game"—using time as a weapon to suck equity away. Chess clocks eliminate that. No burning chips for small decisions. Just clean Poker.
Your remaining time is visible at the table. It adds transparency. It creates different kinds of pressure. If Triton Tempo catches on—and it should—expect other tours to follow. This is the kind of innovation that makes Poker better.

4. ANNETTE OBRESTAD'S STORY IS ABOUT MORE THAN ONE WIN
Annette Obrestad became the youngest WSOP bracelet winner in history at 18 when
she won the inaugural WSOP Europe Main Event in 2007. But the real story starts
online under "Annette_15"—literally 15 years old. No deposit. She built her
bankroll into six figures through pure aggression.
Before London, she proved a point: she played an entire $4 Sit & Go with her hole cards covered by a Post-it note. She won. Cards don't determine Poker outcomes—positioning, aggression, and how you play your hand do.
That aggression translated to live Poker. In just her fifth live cash, she beat John Tabatabai heads-up for £1 million. Incredible.
What happened after is the harder lesson. Deep run at EPT Dublin (second for $429K), but expectations exploded. Pressure got heavier. She gradually faded from major tournaments, with her last significant cash in 2018. Recently, she's found competitive fulfillment on the Scrabble circuit.
Remember, raw talent and fearlessness carry you in Poker. But longevity requires sustainability. Mental health. The ability to find your own path, even if nobody expected it. Annette proved you could win without seeing your cards. Her continued journey proves you can thrive in Poker even when everything changes.

STRATEGY CORNER
HEADS-UP PLAY: A WINNING HEADS-UP POKER STRATEGY
Heads-up Poker is blowing up right now. High-stakes challenges, tournament series, more one-on-one matches than ever. If you're playing heads-up or want to improve your game, here's what I want you to understand.
THE BUTTON IS GOLD
When you're on the button heads-up, you can open way wider than you think. I'm
talking 85-95% of your hands. Why? Because you have one opponent, position post-
flop, and last action. In full-ring, opening 50% from the small blind is already aggressive. Heads-up is a completely different animal.
Your opponent knows you're opening wide, so they'll three-bet you more often. That's the adjustment. But here's the key: you have to show up with hands. If you fold too often to their aggression, they'll exploit you mercilessly.
SIZING MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK
Don't just use the same opening size every hand. Pay attention to your opponent.
If they're folding a lot to raises, go smaller (2x-2.25x). If they're calling and three-betting constantly, size up (2.5x-3.5x). Bigger sizing makes it harder for them to defend wide and three-bet light.
THE READ IS EVERYTHING
Heads-up is beautiful because you have one player to focus on. You can pick up
patterns quickly if you're paying attention. Does this opponent three-bet too
much? Do they give up on the flop easily? Are they passive pre-flop but
aggressive post-flop?
Start general, but as you play more hands together, your reads get specific.
Maybe they always overfold the turn after check-calling the flop. That's
printable money.
In my book, I breakdown defending the big blind, four-betting ranges, and how to exploit common leaks. I go deep into position play and how to turn your edges into consistent wins.

I raise to $70 with A-K and catch a Q-6-5 flop where I c-bet with Ace high for value knowing my opponent is floating super light—and when that turn brings me a king and the river gives me trips…

A major casino just offered something wild: an actual house as the grand prize.
The promotion went viral because it feels different when real property is on the
